Lazy Mo-fo

Whaaaat? Almost 2 years since my last post?

Might be a good time to revamp this bitch.

I've realized that when others draw me, they tend to give me spritely and childish characteristics (often described as "Gremlin-like"), despite being of average size and suspicious demeanor. So in Response to Seedoi's semi-recent post, I thought I'd set things straight.

About Damn Time...

Just scanned 66 comics that I now have to clean up.

Lay Off! I've Been Busy!

I swear! Been updating portfolio, boning up on Illustrator, drawin', comic-ing (which I'll post one of these days), and of course, "ye olde favorite Photoshoppe":

Story: Last week I went to an animation meeting where they served deer heart marinated in beer for us to snack on. I'm still not sure whether I passed on it because of Bambi's mom or because the meat reeked of beer fumes. No matter, I had so much fun working on this that I completely forgot to sleep last night! Started around...uh...11:30 PM(?) and finishing touches added in time for roommates to critique as they got ready for school and work. *sob*

Initial Photoshop sketch, for those of you who do or don't care. Lines were tightened up using pen tool except for where I wanted crustiness.

And for those of you who may be horrified, here's a bit of cuteness to sweeten the day. Made from nostalgic girlhood memories of my favorite winter poncho. (which looked nothing like this)

I Hate Winter and Winter Hates Me

Cold weather always seems to slow me down. Somewhere deep in my brain a switch is set on "primordial" because, like clockwork, once the harvest season rolls around and snow falls I find myself assessing nooks and enclosures for hibernation potential. On the plus side I can walk around with a blanket toga without receiving questioning looks. (Either that or my roommates are as strange as I am)

Beware!

Been working on a storyboard portfolio and re-editing my other one, which involved scrapping a lot of stuff I was proud of at some point. (Which I guess makes me happy).

Not that I'm sad now, but I sure was when I drew this.

This came about when I actually listened to what I say when I'm talking to myself.

Sketch doodle...needs more ACTION!

I Took a Very Productive Nap Today...

I moved 2 months ago and have spent the whole time settling; which for me isn't unpacking but finding the best place to sleep on my bed that doesn't make me feel paranoid in my new room.

Trying to keep busy in order to stay sane, but it's a killer on those days when nothing looks quite right... seems like I've been having a lot of those lately.

Yeah I've Been Busy

New posts as soon as I clean up the images.

COMICS! IT'S ABOUT TIME!

I've been compiling journal comics for some time now, just so I can update with as safe amount of backlog. Problem is now those comics have become outdated! I think what I'm going to do is post the most recent ones and create an archive of the oldies that have never been seen.

My Guilt Just Grows and Grows...

I got an internship at Midway Games (how the heck did that happen?!) and while my productivity level is about the same, scanning and posting stuff has only gotten harder. On the plus side, my current sketchbook, Barnabus, is almost filled! I'm giving it until the end of the month, at the latest May 18th, which is the day I finally flippin' graduate!!!

I can't seem to find the white background version of this one.

These are just to prove I've been doing junk and not just laying in bed, which is really what I wish I was doing.

I'm Terrible at This...

Geez, I need to give myself blog deadlines or something. It's one thing to be unproductive (which I'm not, I SWEAR!), but I just never bother showing my stuff. Maybe it's an innate fear of failure. Or pickiness. Or I just end up reading or drawing instead of posting....yeah, I think that's it.

I doodled this in math class. African? Japanese? Afro-Japanese? Who knows what's influencing me.
One thing's for sure: Parachute pants.

This started with the lead monster being doodled at the Field Museum (inspired by an Eryops, I think), and eventually lead to this. I'm now developing them in an assignment for my Producing class.

In recent news, I'm slowly learning after effects. Sometimes I just wish I could get along with a pencil and some animation paper, but we are living in the 21st century. Plus I like photoshop too much to give up on technology. I've also got a new storyboarding and concept development gig on top of a comic that's still in the development stage. Thank god storyboarding for APS class is done. I mostly just do poses and animation checking in that class now, and a keys and animation here and there.

Oh, and I redid my final for Alternative Strategies in Animation. I'm still editing it, but....

This is a clip of the original charcoal portion. Called "WakeUp!", it's a mixed media piece. I reshot the opening portion using cutouts on a multiplane rather than a flat paper puppet with joints (too rigid), and added a chalk portion. The whole thing is timed to the beat of the song "Wake Up and Smell the Millennium" by Nobody. I'd post it, but don't have the rights to the song. I'll get around to it. It's a very upbeat song.

It could be egocentric, or I could actually be that great.

Wow, have I been lazy lately. Tonight is New Years Eve (and also the big bro's b-day), and I've made up my mind to finish this sketch book and start the new year with a fresh one. Normally I finish one every season, but this one was started waaaaay back in August. What a disappointment!

Here's a few noodle doodles from the current "Ghosts inna Drawer":

Surfin the Sofa: aka "Crazy from Sickness"

Photobucket

Right now I'm in preproduction for a non-school related short animation. The project name is "Sokoke", and I plan on it being a mixed media. It will involve scratch and paper animation on a multiplane. The whole idea is based around characters having the heads of endangered species. The main character herself has the head of a Golden-rumped Elephant Shrew. I'm also still working on a project I started in my Alternative Strategies in Animation class, but didn't complete by semester's end. Oh well, it's still a really fun project. Titled "Wakeup!", it's another mixed media with paper cutouts, charcoal, scratch, live action, and a background animated in Photoshop. There's something about animating a character dancing that's incredibly stream of conscious. I'll post what I have done soon.

Other than that, I've been playing around with editing short clips of music and dialog to use for character animation. I'm trying to practice animating mannerisms and subtlety. Well, as subtle as animation allows. A friend of mine created a stop motion short in my apartment and gave me a whole load of leftover Sculpey clay, and I've been playing around with that too.

Peace Sells

ARGH! Animation Production Studio is stealing all my time! Winter break is coming up though, so more updates soon!
